As a regional theatre Music Director, a common duty is reducing the original orchestrations in order to create a full sound utilizing a smaller sized band. It is not unusual to reduce shows originally written for 15 - 25 musicians down to only 5 - 10. This is done by incoroprating musical concepts, instrument doubling, and clever keyboard programming.
